What's New

Department Events Next Week (Save the Date!)

There are three exciting events being held by the department next week. Please put them into your calendars and try to attend as many as you can!

The first event is the 2nd Annual CS Ice Cream Social. UPDATE: This event will be held in ECCR 265 (not the DLC Collaboratory) on Thursday, September 6th from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Come get free ice cream and learn more about the department and our active student groups!

The second event, the CSUAC Welcome Back event, is held in DLC Collaboratory and will start 15 minutes or so after the ice cream social comes to an end. CSUAC will be handing out t-shirts and will host two talks, one by the makers of Sphero and the other by an organizer of Scrib, a "coworking space" in downtown Boulder where a bunch of entrepreneurs and freelancers hang out and work on their companies in a friendly and productive environment. These speakers will be handing out prizes and CSUAC will also provide free pizza. Sounds like fun!

The third event is a showing of CODEBREAKER, a documentary on the life of Alan Turing. This event is put on by CU's ACM Student Chapter and sponsored by the department, and will be held in Math 100 at 6 PM on Friday, September 7th. The executive producer of the movie will be on hand to host a Q&A session after the show.

Please plan on attending these fun events next week! In the meantime, enjoy your weekend!

Moodle

I just sent a message to all students enrolled in CSCI 4448/5448 (including the undergraduate, graduate, and CAETE sections of the class) providing the enrollment key for the 4448/5448 section of the class on moodle.cs.colorado.edu. Please login to the moodle and self enroll in the class, providing the enrollment key when the moodle asks for it. If you encounter any problems, let me know.

If you are still on the waiting list, you can contact me after you get enrolled to acquire the enrollment key.

RSS Feed

As advertised, an RSS feed is now available for the What's New page. Just click on the "Subscribe to RSS feed" link on that page to subscribe to the feed in your favorite news reader. As mentioned in Lecture 1, there are a number of RSS feed readers out there including Google Reader, NetNewsWire, Reeder, and FeedDemon. Let me know if you have any questions.

Syllabus Statements

Each semester, the campus asks me to share with my students a number of statements regarding a set of campus policies. These syllabus statements talk about disability accommodations, religious observances, classroom behavior, discrimination and harassment, and the honor code. Please take time to read these statements at least once during the start of the semester.

Booting Up…

I'm working on the construction of the class website for CSCI 4448/5448 for the Fall 2012 semester. Stay tuned for rapid updates over the course of the week!

I'll see you in class tomorrow!
