12:25:54 PM

The course schedule has been updated once again. Tomorrow, our review of topics will continue. I didn't get a chance to cover everything that I wanted to cover last time! On Thursday, we will cover Interaction diagrams.

I am assigning Chapter 6 from UML Distilled as the reading for this week. Rather than printing out 47 copies of Chapter 6 and having some of them go to waste, I'm only going to print as many as I need. Would you please send me mail if you do not have a copy of UML Distilled and thus require a printout of Chapter 6?

Stay tuned for additional updates throughout the day.

James Garnett sent in a pointer to another UML Drawing Tool. Its called MagicDraw and I have placed the relevant information on the UML Tools page.

In addition, Wayne Demery notes that the Rational Rose website has more information on Activity Diagrams. Check it out at the following URL:

I discovered a very nice UML resource on the Web at:

I have added this link to the Related Links page.

I have updated the course schedule slightly. Next week, I will be covering Operations and Methods on Tuesday together and I will use Thursday to review all of the topics covered in class so far. One comment that I received on one of the "thursday" cards was that I do not summarize enough. I will try to do better in this regard in future lectures and I'll attempt to make up for previous lectures next Thursday. Note: I will not be creating a formal lecture for Thursday. Instead, I'll reuse slides from previous lectures to do the summary.

The reading critique for this week is located at the following URL:

The critique will be due next Tuesday. Team Assignment 4 will be assigned on Thursday.

Monday, October 12, 1998

11:33:00 PM

Lecture 13 is now available. Sorry for not making it available sooner. I will try to get Lecture 14 done tomorrow.

12:32:37 PM

Lecture 13 will be made available later today. Lecture 14 will be made available tomorrow night. I ask for your patience with me during this week while I work on my grant proposal.

Jia Hua Xiao sent in the following pointer to a website that presents a survey of OOA&D methods that incorporate the notion of use cases:

I have added this item to the Related Links page.

5:36:12 PM

Lecture 12 is now available. Its the longest lecture yet! It tries to cover an activity diagram example in the context of requirements, use cases, and class diagrams. In addition, I spend some time answering a question that was posed last week about OOA&D methods.

John Beckman reports that he was having problems with Rational Rose under Windows95. Rose was crashing on him even when using very simple operations. He found a webpage on the Rational website that contained a fix to the problem. If you are experiencing problems with Rose, take a look at:

October 3, 1998

5:55:16 PM

Lecture 11 is now available. Note: there is more to the lecture than meets the eye. I will be working through an example or two either on the chalk board or on the overhead project, I just needed a little more space than what PowerPoint provides.

1:57:53 PM

I have added a Related Links page to topics on UML and OOA&D.
