Mick Khoo

web site: http://ucsu.colorado.edu/~khoo/
Graduate student, Department of Anthropology. My MA thesis examined 55
websites on Ladakh (in the Himalayas) -- home pages of tourists who had
been there, travel agencies, and NGOs. The descriptions of Ladakh in the
websites bore little relation to what Ladakhis say about themselves; so I
coded the websites for metaphors, and attempted to trace the origins of
these metaphors in literature.
My current anthropological interests in cyberspace are focused loosely on
how the changing experience of time and space encountered on the Net is
both influenced by, and influences, culture; perhaps with a focus in
e-commerce. There's more on this in my website, in my cyberstudies links
page, and my MA
thesis summary.

appropriate user interface", "How do you engage readers online", "How do you
create an atmosphere of diversity online", etc.

Department: Physics as of now but I am attempting a transfer to computer
science
Grade: Junior
Company: Aspect Development (www.aspectdv.com)
Home page: ucsu.colorado.edu/~aamartin (this is not really anything
exciting I slapped it together my freshman year and my hopes
of implementing a more user friendly version have fallen short.)
Internet Interests: This is a tough call. There are lots of things that
interest me. I am really interested in the idea of distributed
systems, the internet of today really doesn't facilitate my dreams of
how this could happen. More short term and more feasible are some
things that I learned in Gerhard's class last semester. I would like
to see more collaborative design efforts over the internet consisting
of contextulized information. Anyway I could say more but that would
end up is a very long email and this is just a short 'get to know me'
one. So more on my ideas another day.
