CSCI 1200 Homework 1

Due Thursday, September 7, 2006. 5:00pm
50 point assignment
(graded by Hadjar.Homaei@colorado.edu)

This assignment has two parts:
(A) submit an electronic statement of interest to your professor, and
(B) fill out a class questionnaire electronically.
Both parts are using WebCT over the Internet World Wide Web.

WebCT is a University website that contains electronic course supplements for numerous CU classes. To access WebCT, do the following:

1.        Using any internet connected computer (for example, the University library, or the CSCI-1200 computer lab in room ECCR 252), start up a web browser, and type in the internet address:
http://webct.colorado.edu/

2.        On this next page, webCT requires you to type in your CU Login Name and Password. Enter your IdentiKey login name (i.e. CU login ID) and your IdentiKey password, and click Log in. On the next page, click on “Introduction to Computing”

Now you are into the CSCI 1200, Introduction to Computing homepage. Click on “Getting Started” to see general information. Click on “Course Content” and then “Course Information” to see the course syllabus and detailed information. Try clicking other icons to explore further course information. Then do A and B below.

(A) Submit electronic statement of interest:

Create and save a text file on your local computer containing the statement of interest. Click on “Homework depository” then click on “Homework 1”. Follow the on-screen directions to upload and submit this text file from your local computer to webct. The statement should contain your name, student ID, the course number (CSCI 1200), your recitation section number, and two to four sentences telling the professor why you chose to take this course. Be specific here; don't just say "to learn about computers." Tell the professor why you need to know, or what you want to do in your future.

(B) Fill out questionnaire:

Return to the Introduction to Computing homepage of webct. Click on “questionnaire” then click on “questionnaire1”. Follow the on-screen directions to fill out the questionnaire. If you encounter difficulties, talk to any teaching assistant (TA) or to your professor.
