About the Manual

This lab manual is designed to accompany a conventional OS undergraduate textbook (such as my undergrad OS book).

If you want to review or order the manual, see Addison Wesley's general information web page, or contact your Addison Wesley sales rep. You can review the preface and the table of contents on the web.

The errata sheet contains the list of errors that I know about in the book. If you have found an error, PLEASE describe it to me rather than just sending me (or otherwise posting) a flame that says what a bozo you think I am.

Solutions to Problems

Access to solution sets will be handled by Addison-Wesley when they become available. If you are an instructor you will be able to review the solutions, by contacting your Addison-Wesley sales rep. There are solutions for all exercises.

Here is a package that loads a copy of Linux on top of a native version of Linux -- possibly good for debugging, though I have not tried it.

Related Undergraduate Textbook

I have also written an undergraduate textbook on operating systems, Operating System: A Modern Perspective (Addison Wesley, second edition, 2000) which I hope you will take a look at if you are also considering a textbook for your course. It is now in its second edition.
