System Support for Group Communication Services
Despite the extensive use of group communication services
in building highly available and dependable distributed software, these
services have so far remained notoriously complex and difficult to understand,
design, and implement. The key reason for this complexity is a lack of
suitable low-level support for designing and implementing these services.
We propose three low-level services that provide functionalities commonly
needed in the design and implementation of group communication services.
These services are event mapping, vector timestamp, and event history.
