I am a professor and chair of Computer Science, a fellow in the Institute of Cognitive Science, and co-director of the CLEAR (Center for Computational Language and Education Research). My current research involves natural language processing and its application to to problems in medical informatics, crisis informatics, and personalized learning.
I am the co-author with Dan Jurafsky of the leading textbook for natural language processing: Speech and Language Processing: An Introduction to Natural Language Processing, Computational Linguistics and Speech Recognition.
