Evaluation Criteria for CSCI 3308

A student's grade will be determined by their work in the following categories:

  • Homeworks
  • Labs
  • Quizzes
  • Programs
  • Midterm
  • Testing Notebook
  • Final

The midterm is worth 100 points while the testing notebook and final are each worth 200 points. Each homework, lab, and quiz is worth 10 points while programs are worth 30 points each. At the end of the semester, your total points in each category will be added to produce your overall point total. This number will be divided by the total points possible to produce a percentage and the percentage will be used to determine your final grade (e.g. 90-100% = A, 80-90% = B, etc.) The cutoff points between grades may change to curve the results slightly. To select cutoffs we will look for groups of similar grades with relatively large gaps between the groups. We wil also take into account intangibles such as class participation, improvement throughout the semester, etc.

There are ten homeworks, ten labs, three programs, and eleven quizzes this semester. The total possible points is thus:

Category Points
10 homeworks 100
10 labs 100
3 programs 90
11 quizzes 110
midterm (in-class) 100
Testing Notebook 200
Final 200
Total 900
