First, thanks again for writing a letter for me! I try to keep an updated list of achievements I'm proud of (or information that provides context for the CV) that might be helpful in remembering details when writing a letter. I've broken it down into sections and the bullets are ordered in reverse chronological order within each section. I'm not going to duplicate my scholar page, CV, research statement, teaching statement, and service statement, so I'm aiming to keep this document relatively short (I will repeat the most noteworthy stuff). New material since 2015 in italic.

• 2017 CAREER award: Continuing our research on interactive question answering, focusing on human-computer hybrid question answering teams
• 2016 NAACL best paper award: My student Mohit won NAACL best paper award that deepified our prior work on relationship induction and unsupervised evaluation (both from 2009 and joint work with Jonathan Chang and Dave Blei)
• 2015 NIPS best demonstration award: our quiz bowl question answering system (for which I wrote the in-person part of the code)
• 2015 Karen Spärk Jones Award: Presented by British Computing Society IR group to young researchers in IR/computational linguistics.
• 2015 CoNLL best paper: Collaboration with BYU creating a crowdsourcing model to handle multiple annotators with correlated errors
• 2009 NIPS best student paper runner-up (shared with Jonathan Chang): on evaluating unsupervised probabilistic models

• The publication I'm most proud of in 2016 is with my student Forough (first publication with student who started at Colorado). It is a task-based evaluation of topic models on the task they're meant to address: measuring how well users can understand a document collection. We measure how accurately users build a set of labels to describe the data and run a user study with 40 participants.

• Book on "Applications of Topic Models" with David Mimno and Yuening Hu
• Silly bean-counting statistics: 3127 citations, h-index 23, Erdos number 2, undefined Bacon number
• 7 journal papers, 60 refereed conference papers, 2 book chapters, 1 book

• Our work (joint work with Cristian at MPI/Cornell) on detecting deception in Diplomacy got good coverage from a number of venues.
• Our quiz bowl system was featured on the UMD homepage after beating Ken Jennings.

• Two students in tenure-track placements: Mohit Iyyer (UMass), Alvin Grissom (Ursinus)
• He He (co-advised with Hal) went on to postdoc at Stanford with Percy
• An (co-advised with Philip) went on to Facebook Data Science team and served as NAACL area chair.
• My former (and first, for that matter) student Yuening won best application paper at KDD 2016 (I had nothing to do with this work, to be clear, but very proud of her)
• Commitment to diversity: two female PhD students graduated (50%), one MS (50%); currently advising two women, one African-American student, and one hispanic student

• My wife moved back to DC in late 2016: Unable to find work in Colorado, my wife found a science writing position in the DC area and returned there. I commuted back and forth between Colorado and Maryland during Spring 2017.
• Our daughter born 12. October 2015: took parental leave Spring 2016 (was primary caregiver after wife returned to full-time work 15. Dec 2015)
• My dad (who lives in Brighton, CO) had serious health issues from Fall 2012-Spring 2015 (heart attack and bypass surgery, whose treatment revealed metastatic cancer). Doing much better now, but a big part of the reason we moved to Boulder.
