Amanda Lee Hughes: PhD Candidate (CS)

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Computer Science Department at the University of Colorado Boulder. As a member of Professor Leysia Palen's Project EPIC (Empowering the Public in Crisis) team, I investigate the use of information communication technology (ICT) during crises and mass emergencies with particular attention to how social media are affecting formal emergency response agencies. My research interests span human-computer interaction, computer-supported cooperative work, social computing, software engineering, and disaster studies. I ground my work in the empirical analysis of social relationships and work practices, after which I design, prototype, test, and implement digital solutions that support this analysis.
