Wonderland

About Wonderland:
Wonderland is a 1989 Nordic 40 sloop designed by Robert Perry and built in Washington state. She (boats are always female for some reason) sleeps 6 and sails pretty well. All important lines are led to the cockpit, so I can sail single-handed, although I don't do that on purpose. It's more fun with crew.

Sailing Schedule:
Schedules and sailboats don't go together very well, so all dates that are in the future and even places are approximate and will surely change.

Past Schedule -- 2003-2008

Current and Future Schedule

Dec 2008-Jan 2009: San Blas Islands on the Caribbean side of Panama. (crew: Hannah, Libby, Susha, Weston Pratt and Peter Kovacs, a full house for sure).
Jan-Feb 2009: San Blas some more. (crew: alone for a while, then Jim Lane).
Mar-Nov 2009: Evi home to do 6th edition of Unix/Linux System Administration Handbook; Jim Lane and Wondy in the San Blas. Visitors welcome, beautiful clear water, nice snorkeling, interesting villages and islands.
Nov 2009-Feb 2010: More exploring the San Blas and other parts of the Caribbean coast of Panama. Also need to do some boat chores to be ready for the Pacific. (crew: Cara McMillan, +???, come visit).
Feb-Mar 2010: Transit the Panama canal; finish last minute chores before heading out across the Pacific. (crew: Laszlo Nemeth, ????, need more).
Apr-Nov 2010: Cross the Pacific, heading to the Galapagos, Marquesas, and Tahiti. (crew: John Mcginley, + ????, need more)
Nov 2010: Get out of the hurricane zone, probably heading to Australia or New Zealand.
Dec 2010-Mar 2011: Stay out of the hurricane zone
Apr-Nov 2011: Go back to the south Pacific for another season.
2012: Figure out how to get home, Suez is iffy now because of the Somalia pirates, Cape of Good Hope (under Africa) is hard and can be rough, or a circuit of the Pacific, north by Japan to Alaska (cold and currently Wondy has no heat) or at least Seattle and then meander down the Pacific coast of the USA.

I often need crew, if you are interested send me an email. The deal is that unless you are related, you pay your own expenses (travel to and from and food) and a share of the boat expenses (feul, dockage, but not repairs). You clean up after yourself (I'm not your mother, except for one instance :-) and help with cooking and boat chores. It's a plus if you are easy going, like to read (there is no TV) and don't snore. Another plus if you speak Spanish or are handy at fixing things.

Visitors are almost always welcome, 2 weeks seems like a good visit length for first timers-- it's long enough to justify the travel to get to the boat and short enough to not drive either you or me too crazy if it doesn't work out.

Log Book, Status Reports:
These status reports are informal emails I sent to family and friends. Send me an email if you would like to be added to or removed from the distribution list.
