The Acme Exterminator

Andy Hill, Noelle LaVoie, Mike Micucci

In the tradition of Rube Goldberg machines, the Acme Exterminator is comprised of convoluted mechanisms which eventually trap a cockroach. Although the Exterminator is designed only to capture a waiting cockroach, it accomplishes this goal with more effort and complexity than needed. The machine is activated when a bug (preferably a wind-up one) walks across a light sensor. Using a motor connected to a friction drive, a marble is carried to the top of a roller coaster, where it is deposited. At the bottom of the roller coaster, the marble falls on a lever which hits a switch, turning on the second motor and friction drive, and lowering a net onto the unsuspecting bug.
