Watch a Garden Grow

Eric Serfoss, Rebecca Jones, Ted Chen

Watch a Garden Grow is an automaton that has been designed to evoke an emotional and spiritual response to nature. To the casual observer, two flowers bloom in an alternating cycle while a bee (with stinger!) flies back and forth between them. The blooming of the flowers themselves is particularly wonderful as the compressed petals out of the bud and open. To the curious and more observant, several mechanisms can be seen in action including levers, shafts, a crank, springs, a linkage, a drive, and a gearing.
