A Friendly Interface to Backup Copilot
Senior Project: 1991-1992
Backup Copilot, a facility for backing up and restoring file systems,
provides many improvements over traditional dump and restore. It provides
increased machine availability (allows on-line dumps and fast reboots), ease of
use (simplifies restores and backup configuration and scheduling), and improved
performance (faster backups).
The project involved the production of a graphical user interface for
Backup Copilot. This graphical user interface, implemented in C using
OpenWindows and XView, provides a simple end-user tool to assist in the
restoration of files. A user may graphically navigate the backed up file
systems as they exist on multiple dump tapes, select the appropriate versions
of files and directories to be restored, and then send the appropriate
information to an operator to actually cause the restoration.
