Java-Based Data Graphing Package
Senior Project: 2000-2001
Eclipse, Inc. is a leading provider of enterprise software for end-to-end
supply chain management. Founded in 1991, Eclipse has quickly become a market
leader with over 25,000 users throughout the United States, Mexico, and
Canada. Eclipse enables distributors to improve their business efficiency by
streamlining several traditional distribution processes. Eclipse has
established itself as a leader in several market segments including Plumbing,
HVAC, PVF, Electrical, Building Materials, Industrial, Paper and other durable
goods supply industries. Integrated business applications including Sales
Management, Inventory Management, Finance and Accounting, Business Intelligence
and Warehouse Automation are among the essential elements that leverage the
business rules set forth by the Eclipse Application Framework. Collectively,
these components work together to help optimize the flow of information
throughout the supply chain.
The goal of this project was to develop a data-graphing package integrated with
Eclipse's current Java client structure to communicate with the server machine
running on a UniVerse database on AIX. The graphing package is able to accept
sets of data and graph them in multiple different representations including a
bar chart, pie chart, and line chart, in both 2D and 3D versions. These data
points also have "drill down" functionality to filter the data sets and view
more specific information. This capability seamlessly integrates to gather the
information from the host database. The system was written using the Java JDK
1.3 in interaction with the current client interface that Eclipse has in
place.
