A Graphical User Interface for the Configuration of HP OpenView
Senior Project: 1995-1996
Vivian Chao, John Franklin, Stephen Spruce and Christoph Wertz
The goal of this project was to design and develop X11/Motif based graphical
user interfaces to help configure two subsystems of the HP OpenView
Distributed Management Platform -- Event Management Services and Object
Registration Services. Event Management Services configures reception and
logging of events, one of the most important tasks for network management
systems. Object Registration Services provides a distributed directory service,
supplying addressing information for objects in the management domain. Most of
the configuration of these products has been via programmatic means, shell
commands, and script files or by editing configuration files and then running
shell scripts to input the information. The project provides graphical user
interfaces to improve the usability of the current process, allowing
interactive browsing and modification of the configurations. The project was
developed using an object-oriented approach in C++ for use on HP and Sun
workstations.
