Sun Microsystems is a worldwide company that produces a wide variety of
products. Sun desires to produce robust, reliable software that has been
thoroughly tested to meet its design requirements. In large projects, however,
the huge number of continually changing requirements makes coverage tracking
nearly impossible. Sun wanted to research the possibility of a tool that will
not only make the process of linking test cases to requirements easier, but
will also easily show the coverage data of requirements and test cases. This
functionality would allow Sun to effectively manage resources and guarantee
that the most important requirements are tested.
While Sun initially wanted to have a tool that would only solve the requirement
tracking problem for OpenOffice documents, they required that the program be
designed in such a way that it would be possible to extend it for additional
applications and tasks. The tool allows the user to mark text of a document as
a requirement and to associate that requirement with test cases. The software
was implemented in Java.
