A Dynamic VRML Data Visualization Tool
Senior Project: 1996-1997

Boulder-based Internet One, Inc. recently joined with five other companies in
New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta to form THINK New Ideas, Inc., a company
devoted to new media applications for its clients, including WWW sites, print
ads, etc. This project involved the creation of a proof-of-concept for a system
to do dynamic, 3D data modeling. The system allows a user to interactively
create objects in a three-dimensional world, link their attributes to data
sets, and to watch the objects change as the data changes. For instance, the
color of a sphere might be linked to a data value that represents the
temperature of some physical object, while the size of the sphere (i.e., its
radius) might be linked to a data value representing the speed of the physical
object. The sphere might get redder (for instance) as the physical object gets
hotter. The sphere might get larger (for instance) as the physical object goes
faster. The system was written in Java and VRML.
