Remote Ground System Support for Satellite Missions
Senior Project: 2003-2004
Eugene Bazyl, Jonathan Bowman, Christian Cunningham, Joshua McGeehon and Justin Meyer
The Remote Ground Station (RGS) is part of a Ground Station Network (GSN)
supporting multiple satellite missions produced by the Colorado Space Grant
Consortium (CSGC). The system will be deployable over the web and will allow
for remote users to participate in and be a part of a larger ground
communication network supporting one or more satellites over multiple missions.
A client will provide remote users with the ability to receive transmitted data
from satellites produced by CSGC, and transmit this data back to the home
server located at the CSGC main facility in Boulder, Colorado.
The satellite data will be received through the use of a ham radio that will
be initialized and setup by the end users themselves. The data will be
interpreted in real time through the use of dynamic libraries included with
the application or downloaded from the web. Each library will support one
of the satellites, thus allowing for easier future development and support. The
client will provide a graphical user interface that will promote a rich and
satisfying user experience for the end user.
