Senior Project - QFLIP

A Comprehensive Flight Planner for General Aviation

Senior Project: 1995-1996
Cheri Andersen, William Hughes, Ralph Lippert and Ildemaro Villarroel-Arismendi
Boulder, CO

Wyndemere Incorporated is a software engineering company specializing in the development of aviation and air-traffic control applications. Wyndemere has a long-term goal of developing an automated flight vehicle that can be piloted safely and efficiently by individuals with average skill. A key component of this system is an avionics suite that is capable of automating most of the functions necessary to conduct a flight. One important module of this system is the flight planning module. This project developed an initial implementation of a flight planning module for use in such a flight vehicle. The functionalities include those required to conduct real, practical, cross-country flights over significant distances, such as a typical business traveler might encounter. Once a flight plan has been generated, the user may view a graphical representation of the route as a map overlay, examine a projected flight log, and examine and print a copy of the corresponding FAA report. The system was developed in C and Tcl/Tk to run in a UNIX workstation environment.
