In today's computer- and network-dependent world, sensitive data is frequently
stored on insecure systems and passed through insecure channels. The theft or
loss of data is a major privacy and security concern that many companies cannot
afford to ignore. The Web is dangerous. VeriPal aims to immunize users against
the threats of criminals, phishers, pharmers, and predators.
VeriPal, a small start-up company based in Niwot, Colorado, focuses on
providing security for typical users. VeriPal's Privacy Suite is
designed to decrease the risk of data theft through secure, encrypted messages
and transactions.
VeriPal wanted to add improvements to the VeriPal Privacy Suite. While
VeriPal already had encryption and decryption algorithms, it needed these
algorithms to be incorporated into an easy-to-use graphical user interface.
In addition, VeriPal also wanted to give users the ability to send encrypted
voicemails.
This project, implemented in Java, extended Privacy Suite by allowing
users to encrypt and decrypt voicemail messages that can be attached to secure
VeriPal emails. The project also enhanced data security by giving users the
ability to encrypt and decrypt selected folders and files in the file system of
their local machine.
