Electronic Dental Charting
Senior Project: 2004-2005
HealthWare Corporation develops and markets application software for the
management of medical and dental offices in the United States and Canada. They
have developed a new dental application, called
iDental,
to provide dental office management and clinical services to dental offices.
This application's predecessor, DentalMac, was written exclusively for
Apple's OS 9 operating system and was successfully sold to over 7,000 medical
and dental practices.
The goal of this project was to develop iDental's Electronic Dental
Charting module for Apple's newer Mac OS X operating system. Taking advantage
of OS X technologies offered through the Cocoa API, the task was to provide
chair-side clinical charting, periodontal charting, and clinical records for
the new application, encapsulated into a unified module. The new system
not only provides the core functionality of its predecessor, but also provides
a number of powerful new features. The software will be integrated into
HealthWare's larger iDental product and deployed to all the clients
who have upgraded their offices to the powerful OS X platform.
