DreamQuest Software, based in Louisville, Colorado, develops games for the
Windows PC, Pocket PC, Palm Pilot and Symbian Mobile Phone markets. In
particular, they have developed many popular card games, including Hearts,
Spades, Gin and Blackjack, which have won numerous awards for their challenge
and fun. Due to their success in card games, the next natural step was to
expand to other games, particularly to chess and checkers.
DreamQuest's challenge was to create fun and playable versions of these two
classic board games that would be recognized as DreamQuest games, building on
the existing Visual Basic code base of other DreamQuest games. It was
particularly important to reuse components such as DreamQuest characters,
menus, and other recognizable DreamQuest game traits.
The solution provided fully playable versions of both chess and checkers. Both
games use all of the DreamQuest characters, sounds, and other features so that
both games are easily recognized as being DreamQuest products. Both games have
adjustable difficulty levels, interactive taunts, undo move, tutorials, save
game, game variations (such as "Flying Kings" for checkers) and the option-rich
features for which DreamQuest games are known. In addition, both games offer a
variety of different boards and piece sets, including both 2D and 3D.
