Bosonics cost modeling software, CostPro, determines manufacturing cost of an
item based on design and production information. CostPro requires its user to
provide pricing data to arrive at the total cost estimate. The goal of
the project was to enhance CostPro by providing more convenient methods of
providing this pricing data, relieving the user of the burden of providing
hardware pricing information.
The project consisted of two main parts: an XML mapping facility and a product
search interface. The XML mapping facility allows a user to map fields in XML
files to fields in a pricing database, automatically uploading that data to the
database. The product search interface is integrated into CostPro at the point
where CostPro asks the user for pricing information. The user can then use the
search interface to find the appropriate products in the pricing database and
return their prices to CostPro for incorporation into the cost model. The
system was implemented in Java.
