Communications Enabling Key Health Care Business Processes

Avaya produces a wide variety of telephony and call center solutions. One of
the Intelligent Communications solutions they deliver is the Communications
Process Manager (CPM), which is able to contact people by phone, email, and
SMS messages and can also process any responses these people may have to the
contact.
KeyPoint utilizes Avaya's CPM functionality to create a modern solution for the
hospital patient discharge process by contacting all the caregivers for a
patient by phone, email, and/or SMS messages to notify the caregivers of the
pending discharge and to ask for each caregiver's approval as appropriate.
Each caregiver's response is noted and the discharge is completed only if all
caregivers have given appropriate approval. This solution is intended to
replace current systems in which an administrator must manually ensure that all
caregivers approve each discharge, and thus reduces administrative burden and
labor costs.
The KeyPoint system utilizes several modern software tools. All of the
functionality of KeyPoint is exposed as web services. These web services have
been integrated with the Intalio Business Process Management System to allow
for completely reconfigurable business logic, which allows for business
managers to reconfigure the business logic "on the fly" without reprogramming
or recompiling the system. KeyPoint was implemented using Java, WSDLs, Struts,
and the Intalio BPMS.
