Aspex Corporation is a young company focused on developing leading edge
Point-of-Sale (POS) software. Its main product is Aspex POS (version 5), a
Windows desktop-based system serving many of Boulder's restaurants, bars, and
retail stores.
The goal of this project was to develop a wireless handheld POS system to
complement Aspex' main product. This system enables users to process orders
and sales using wireless PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), each of which
connects to a host server in the existing POS system. The remote PDA provides
nearly all of the functionality of its desktop counterpart, while retaining the
look and feel of the existing Aspex POS system, making it easy to learn and use
for those already familiar with the Aspex system. The project was implemented
in C++ in a Windows/Windows for Pocket PC environment.
