Longmont United Hospital (LUH) had a large amount of information in a variety
of systems. This included information on financial aspects of the hospital,
patient data, and information on employee training. The problem was that while
this information could be very useful to LUH employees in performing their
duties, it was often very difficult for these employees to access.
The goal of this project was to develop the framework for a web-based system
that periodically (e.g. nightly) extracts this information from the various
existing systems and provides a user interface for selecting and viewing the
data both as textual reports and as bar, line, and pie charts. The system was
implemented for use within the Financial Department for access to various
financial reports, but was designed to be flexible enough to apply to
departments throughout LUH. The project was largely implemented in Perl and
HTML, using KavaChart for graph generation.
