DreamQuest Software, based in Louisville, Colorado, develops games for the
Windows PC, Pocket PC, Palm Pilot and Symbian Mobile Phone markets. In
particular, they have developed many popular card games, including Hearts,
Spades, Gin and Blackjack, which have won numerous awards for their challenge
and fun.
DreamQuest wanted to expand their game collection by creating a Pool game,
based on the fact that Pool is the most popular game played on
Yahoo!.
Thus the goal of the project was to use DreamQuest's pre-existing code base,
designed for card games, to produce a Pool game with realistic physics and
numerous options, but maintaining the style of existing games to ease use for
repeat DreamQuest customers.
The solution included versions of Championship Pool for Windows PCs as well as
for the Palm Pilot. The game supports "8-Ball", "9-Ball", "Rotation",
"One Pocket" and "Classic" pool as well as having the basis for "Cutthroat".
The game supports many game options for number of players, foul, and other
pool-related features. The game also comes with a tutorial that introduces the
user to the interface and various attributes of the game. The system was
implemented using Visual Basic.
