Real Public Radio Network Content Management System
Senior Project: 2004-2005

Concerned about the lack of a truly unrestricted site for public radio
producers and providers to share content, the project sponsor conceived of a
centralized place where these parties could interact. To make those dreams
real, the team built the
Real Public Radio Network (RPRN),
a web-based source for collecting and disseminating digital audio content
suitable for radio broadcasting. The project functions as a content management
system that organizes uploaded content (music, news and documentaries, for
instance), monitors how the content is being used, enables a usage rights
policy for the content, and has the ability to assign value to the content. The
system is general enough to allow for policy changes and scalable enough to
allow the attributes and policies based on them to shrink, grow and change
value.
With RPRN, users of the site have access to a wide range of features. Users may
upload their audio creations for others to download. Users may review and rate
other users and their content, much like
eBay and
amazon.com allow. Audio streams let
visitors discover new and exciting music and documentaries. Finding particular
content is easy with the searching and browsing features. Forums provide a
place for lively discussions about the available music and talk content. RPRN
enables public radio affiliates and the general public to find and share
content that matches the style of their programming or individual tastes.
