CIMStore -- Content-Aware Integrity Maintaining Storage

Disk drives are now available with capacities on the order of hundreds of gigabytes, but disk access times have not improved relative to memory access times or CPU processing speed. High-speed networking infrastructure is becoming more common. To better utilize these resources, I propose CIMStore, a network-based "non-overwriting" storage server, which utilizes content-based coalescing to save storage space and improve cache utilization. Such "non-overwriting" block storage provides the ability to undo higher level (file system level) operations at the block level.
