With the increasing use of computational methods in all sciences comes the need to prepare computer science students for interdisciplinary collaboration. However, there is a dearth of curriculum models for experiencing and learning about productive interdisciplinary computing. To explore the challenges, we conducted a high school bioinformatics workshop aimed at orienting students to the "soft skills" of collaborative work and evaluating the promise of wiki-like supportive technologies. The experience revealed the need to anticipate three key pedagogical concerns: personal relevance, specialization pressures, and individualization.
