The Earth System Grid: Building a DataGrid for Climate Research
Don Middleton

11/13/2003
3:30pm-4:30pm

The Earth System Grid (ESG) project is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy to address the problems of managing distributed terascale climate model data and the subsequent discovery and access by various communities. Such activities are increasingly exercises in large-scale technology integration that span the Grid world, scientific digital libraries, distributed databases, and new technologies for remote data access. In this presentation we will look at the motivation and goals for these efforts along with some of the strategies and technologies being employed to realize them. Network permitting, we will also make a brief live excursion into the web portal that is being developed for this effort.
