Colloquium - Mayer-Patel

Parallel Software-Only Video Effects Processing
University of California, Berkeley
4/15/1999
3:30pm-4:45pm

The experiences of the television and film industries have proven that effects like fades, transitions, and titles add production value to video material. Traditional video effect production methods, however, are not well matched to the needs of Internet video sources. In this talk, I describe a parallel software-only video effects processing system designed specifically for streaming Internet video sources. I will describe mechanisms for supporting different types of parallelism and show how their design is constrained by properties of streaming video formats and protocols. I will also describe a novel control mechanism built on top of Scalable Reliable Multicast (SRM).

Hosted by James Martin.
Refreshments will be served immediately following the talk in ECOT 831.
