CATS - Saint-Andre

XML-Based Messaging with Jabber
Information Design Architect, Jabber Inc.
9/19/2001
4:00pm-5:00pm

The name may sound silly, but Jabber is a serious technology for XML-based, near-real-time messaging. In this session, we'll talk about Jabber's roots in the open-source community as an alternative to proprietary instant messaging (IM) systems such as ICQ. In addition to standard IM technologies such as multi-user conferencing, whiteboarding, voice over IP, and wireless communication, we will also discuss current applications of Jabber technology to problems as diverse as managing networks, improving workflows, and tunneling XML-RPC and SOAP calls through firewalls. Peter Saint-Andre is active both in commercial applications of Jabber technology through his work at Jabber, Inc. and in the Jabber open-source community as a leading member of the Jabber Software Foundation.

Refreshments will be served immediately following the presentation.
