CATS - Vellandi

How a Book Becomes an eBook and How an eBook Becomes Useful
Henry Vellandi
Founder and Chief Scientist, netLibrary, Inc.
3/7/2001
4:00pm-5:00pm

There are many ways to achieve technical excellence. One is to concentrate innovation in a single focused area. Another is to innovate simultaneously in many areas and manage the convergence of existing cutting edge technologies into new and useful solutions. netLibrary has managed to bring together several cutting edge technologies and has created a few of its own to create the premier eBook solution for public, academic and corporate libraries, textbooks and portable consumer books. This talk will focus on the technology of creating an eBook, digital rights management, information discovery and document rendering and portability.

netLibrary is the leading distributor of eBooks to academic, public, K-12 and corporate libraries. Its PeanutPress division focuses on distribution of consumer eBooks for use on PDAs such as Palm Pilot and Pocket PC, and its MetaText division distributes college textbooks.

Refreshments will be served immediately following the presentation.
