BACTAC - Jackson

Student Collaboration in Programming Languages Courses
Assistant Professor, Department of Communication

For computer science students, "working together" is seemingly simple but actually intrinsically difficult. In this talk, I'll share some of the work we've been doing over the past 2.5 years with programming languages courses to (1) investigate and understand student behaviors (specifically in terms of how they complete assignments), (2) understand how students think about and perform group work (sometimes called "collaboration"), and (3) introduce some changes in the way courses and recitations are conducted to model interaction and discussion skills and also to provide students with opportunities to improve their skills. Handouts will be provided.
