Colloquium - Patterson

DLC 170

A Mobile Sensor Platform for Indoor Location-Aware Services and Navigation
Ryan Patterson
Department of Computer Science

Indoor location-aware and navigational services require signal transmitters and sensors to support the computation of indoor locations from known fixed points. I will demonstrate a prototype ultrasonic transmitter and receiver system that is designed to emit, filter, and amplify weakly detected signals resulting in signal propagation over greater ranges than could normally be achieved using handheld power sources.

This demonstration will be grounded in a discussion about how the prototype technology will be used in a handheld PDA and integrated with the MANTIS sensor network project to support indoor navigation and location services.

Sponsored by the Center for Lifelong Learning & Design.

The Department holds colloquia throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. These colloquia, open to the public, are typically held on Thursday afternoons, but sometimes occur at other times as well. If you would like to receive email notification of upcoming colloquia, subscribe to our Colloquia Mailing List. If you would like to schedule a colloquium, see Colloquium Scheduling.

Sign language interpreters are available upon request. Please contact Stephanie Morris at least five days prior to the colloquium.
