Colloquium - Atanasoff

ECCR 265

The Evolution and Impact of the First Electronic Digital Computer
John V. Atanasoff II
CEO, Colorado MEDtech

Professor John V. Atanasoff, Sr., with the help of graduate student Clifford Berry, built the world's first electronic digital computer in the basement of the Physics building at Iowa State University in the late 1930's. Come hear his son talk about:

  • The impetus for the development of the ABC (Atanasoff-Berry Computer),

  • Its innovative architectural concepts,

  • Development hurdles, and

  • The long-term impact the ABC has had on modern computing.

Mr. Atanasoff will also share his personal recollections and some information about the working replica that Iowa State University just built (to be unveiled in Washington, D.C. at the National Press Club on October 8th).

Refreshments will be served immediately before the talk at 3:30pm.
Hosted by Karl Winklmann.
