Understanding Complex Systems
Center of Data Analysis and Modeling, Universität Freiburg

In recent years data collection and storage have become increasingly easy, yielding to a plethora of potentially interesting data bases, ranging from the web to medicine, finance, and various fields of applied science. In many cases, however, scientific progress has been hampered by the lack of adequate analysis techniques.

This talk focuses on dynamical data and shows how advanced methods of time series analysis can be applied to understanding the properties of the underlying processes. The success of the approach is demonstrated on several example from the medical domain (tremor, pharmacokinetics, ion channels).

In his Diplomarbeit (1991) he developed a new approach for neural networks for dynamical data. He subsequently received his PhD (1994) in Freiburg for his analysis work on EEG and tremor data. He is interested in developing new methods for time series analysis, and applying them in an interdisciplinary setting.

Refreshments will be served immediately before the talk at 3:30pm.
Hosted by Andreas Weigend.

The Department holds colloquia throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. These colloquia, open to the public, are typically held on Thursday afternoons, but sometimes occur at other times as well. If you would like to receive email notification of upcoming colloquia, subscribe to our Colloquia Mailing List. If you would like to schedule a colloquium, see Colloquium Scheduling.

Sign language interpreters are available upon request. Please contact Stephanie Morris at least five days prior to the colloquium.
