BACTAC - Ghiasi

ECOT 831

Pumpkin Carving Contest
Soraya Ghiasi
Grad Student, Department of Computer Science

Since Halloween is conveniently placed the day after BACTAC this year, we will hold a pumpkin carving contest. The Social Committee will provide the pumpkins and knives for those who wish to participate. You can compete individually or in teams of two. Store-bought pre-packaged patterns are not allowed, but you are welcome to make your own modeled on that idea.

The pumpkins will be judged on Wednesday by the first three faculty members that I manage to track down and coerce into being judges. ;)

If you want to compete, please let me know by 5:00pm Monday by sending email to Soraya Ghiasi. I'll go buy the pumpkins Monday evening for the number of people who claim they will be competing. If you don't let me know by then, you can still compete, but you will need to provide your own pumpkin and knives.

BACTAC, the Beverage And Chips Tuesday Afternoon Colloquium, is a weekly forum run by graduate students. The goal is provide an informal setting in which anyone can (basically) present anything. In the past, we have had practice talks for conferences and job interviews, research reports, juggle lessons (!), student representative reports, internship discussions, an introduction to ergonomics, and "pay attention to this when you are going to look for job" discussions.

BACTAC is meant to be an informal and social event to promote the interaction among graduate students. BACTAC is typically held every Tuesday, at 3:30pm, in room ECOT 831. Free munchies and drinks are provided.

Please email Caleb Phillips for more information or if you want to be a speaker.
