won a best paper award at
ACM MobiSys 2006, the
Fourth International Conference on Mobile Systems, Applications and Services.
The conference, which was held in June in Uppsala, Sweden,
seeks to present innovative and significant research on the design,
implementation, usage, and evaluation of mobile computing and wireless systems,
applications, and services.
The paper,
FireWxNet: A Multi-Tiered Portable Wireless System for Monitoring Weather Conditions in Wildland Fire Environments,
describes a wireless system which provides the fire fighting community the
ability to safely and easily measure and view fire and weather conditions over
a wide range of locations and elevations within forest fires. This previously
unattainable information allows fire behavior analysts to better predict fire
behavior, heightening safety considerations.
