Postdoctoral researcher Leah Buechley's
(PhD 2007) work on interactive e-textile design was featured in the recent
New York Times article
"My Life in a Video Game (Batteries Not Included)".
The article, which was part of a special "Tech Innovation" section of the paper,
includes the following passage:
"Leah Buechley is a postdoctoral researcher in the
Craft Technology Group
at the University of Colorado Boulder, which studies software applications
in traditional handicrafts. She is selling the
LilyPad Arduino,
a small flower-shaped disk with a computer chip at the center, which can be
sewn into clothes. Sensors like accelerometers ... and light detectors are
attached with wires to the "petals", so the chip can track the wearer's motion."
The article includes a
photo of Buechley
wearing some of her programmable creations, as well as two
other photos
highlighting her work.
The Craft Technology Group is headed by Buechley's advisor,
Associate Professor Michael Eisenberg, and
Adjunct Assistant Professor Ann Eisenberg.
Buechley will continue her research this fall at the MIT Media Lab,
where she has accepted a tenure-track faculty position.
