Members of the Department were honored at a recent reception by Interim Dean
Roop Mahajan.
David Smith, Undergraduate Advisor and
Patricia Libhart, Grant Administrator and Human Resources Liaison
each received the 2001-2002 Staff Recognition Award for their outstanding
contributions to the Department.
Ehrenfeucht
Professor Andrzej Ehrenfeucht received the
Faculty Research Award in recognition of outstanding research contributions.
The influence of his early work on algorithms to decipher genetic problems can
be seen in the recent decoding of the human genome. Two of Professor
Ehrenfeucht's students of this early work,
Eugene Myers and
David Haussler, both moved on to
become chief computer scientists on rival teams of the Human Genome Project.
